There is a question: what vegetables inhibit the aging process

The desire to find the "fountain of youth" led scientists to an unexpected discovery - in the course of laboratory experiments, they came across a connection that can make cells younger in real time. And, best of all, this compound is found in vegetables that can be found in your refrigerator right now.

In an article published by Cell Metabolism, researchers at Washington University Medical School report that they found a "secret agent" who can not only slow down the aging process of cells, but also literally reverse it. Moreover, the wonderful compound is found in a number of natural products, including broccoli, cucumbers, cabbage and edamame soybeans.

How it works: a compound called nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is involved in the production of another compound that is crucial for energy metabolism. When scientists gave aging NMN mice, most of the problems associated with aging went away (animals were able to more effectively convert food into energy, their blood sugar levels were normal and even their eyesight improved). In addition, in mice that received NMN, there was a lack of some genetic changes associated with aging.

So can broccoli make you younger? “Certainly, but I would say that you will not get all the benefits of nicotinamide mononucleotide from natural products,” says Dr. Sin-Ichiro Imai, a professor of biology and one of the authors of the study. The expert notes that if in the near future, scientists can find a way to supply the enzyme in the body in the required doses, then the "fountain of youth" will be open. And it is hoped that new research will provide even more information on how to keep cells young, or at least to contain the diseases that a person has when the cells get older.
